Editorial Policy
Energy Transition Africa (ETA) is committed to rigorous, independent, and responsible public-interest journalism and analysis on Africa's energy transition, climate policy, extractive governance, and development finance.
This policy sets out the principles and standards that govern our editorial practice.
Editorial Independence
ETA operates with full editorial independence.
Editorial decisions are made solely by ETA's editorial team and are not influenced by governments, political parties, corporations, donors, advocacy organisations, or commercial interests.
Where ETA receives funding, enters partnerships, or collaborates with institutions, such relationships do not determine editorial conclusions, tone, or framing.
All opinions expressed in ETA's content reflect the judgment of our editors and contributors and do not represent the views of any funder, partner, or affiliated institution.
Institutional credibility depends on independence. We protect it accordingly.
Accuracy, Verification, and Sourcing
ETA is committed to accuracy, fairness, and transparency.
We verify factual claims prior to publication using credible and traceable sources, including:
- Official government data
- Multilateral and development finance reports
- Academic research
- Industry disclosures
- On-the-record interviews
- Primary documentation
Where information is uncertain, disputed, or evolving, we state this clearly. We distinguish between verified fact, informed analysis, and opinion. If an error is identified, it is corrected promptly and transparently.
Analytical Standards
ETA publishes explanatory journalism, policy analysis, and original research.
Our work is grounded in political economy, institutional analysis, and systems thinking. We aim to explain not only what is happening, but why it matters — particularly for African institutions, communities, markets, and governance systems.
ETA does not advocate predetermined policy outcomes. We examine trade-offs, risks, competing incentives, and long-term consequences. We recognise that Africa's energy transition involves complex structural choices.
Our role is to clarify those choices, not to oversimplify them.
Editorial Formats
ETA publishes across defined editorial formats to provide clarity of intent:

Readers are encouraged to notify us of potential inaccuracies via our Contact page.
Conflicts of Interest
Editors and contributors must disclose any financial, professional, institutional, or advisory affiliations relevant to the subject matter.
Where relevant, disclosures will be noted within the publication.
ETA does not permit undisclosed conflicts of interest that may compromise editorial integrity.
Guest Contributions
ETA publishes guest contributions subject to editorial review. All submissions are assessed for:
- Accuracy and evidentiary grounding
- Analytical coherence
- Relevance to African energy transition contexts
- Alignment with ETA's editorial standards
ETA reserves the right to edit submissions for clarity, structure, and length while preserving the author's intent and voice.
Publication does not imply endorsement of every argument made but affirms that the piece meets our editorial standards.
Use of Artificial Intelligence
ETA may use artificial intelligence tools to support research, drafting, editing, translation, or data processing.
All published content is subject to human editorial oversight, verification, and judgment.
AI tools assist workflow efficiency but do not replace editorial responsibility.
Commitment to African Perspectives
ETA centres African political, economic, and institutional realities.
We prioritise African voices, scholarship, field experience, and policy context. We critically examine external narratives that overlook Africa's agency, diversity, or strategic interests.
Africa is not treated as a passive recipient of global transitions, but as a strategic actor shaping them.
Accountability and Engagement
ETA welcomes constructive engagement from readers, researchers, policymakers, and practitioners.
Questions, feedback, or concerns regarding editorial standards may be directed through our Contact page.
Trust is earned through transparency, consistency, and intellectual honesty. We are committed to maintaining it.
